Covid-19 - Hope For The Elderly

Fairbrook Grove Assisted Living Home wants to extend a Message of Hope to everyone with elderly loved ones during these times of hardship and struggle.

We know it can be hard to be isolated away from your loved one, and recognize the fear of getting them sick. This fear has kept us away from our elderly friends and family and everyone is suffering because of it.

We miss the way things used to be, the future we held so tightly in hope for a new tomorrow, and the social interactions we had before this crisis.

With so many unknowns about the future, we believe there are ways we can uplift each other and help restore hope to those in fear or are concerned about their health and family.

Here are a few ways you can still connect with your elderly loved ones and bring them hope.

Video Messaging

Fairbrook Grove Assisted Living Home in Mesa AZ has an iPad that the residents can use to make “Zoom” calls or “Facetime” calls where the residents can actually see their loved ones and interact with them.

Technology has advanced so much in the last handful of years. This has made it possible for most people to have access to some form of video communication. This is such a fun way to connect with people when you live far away or can’t see each other. If your loved one does not have a way to video chat, or needs help, talk to their caregivers or facility to try and work something out.

Writing A Letter/ Sending A Gift

Sometimes receiving a gift in the mail is what someone needs. It could be a letter telling them how much you appreciate and love them. It could be sending them a new crossword book or a juicy novel to read. Either way, getting something fun and unexpected in the mail can help bring joy and restore hope in their current situation.

Phone Calls

Phones are the best invention when it comes to connecting with each other. Fairbrook Grove Assisted Living Home in Mesa AZ has a dedicated landline specifically for the residents to use. Most Assisted Living Homes have home phones that can be sanitized and used by a resident. Otherwise, a personal cell phone is a good idea for an elderly loved one to have a way to connect with friends and family during this time.

Window Visits

A fun way to still interact with your loved one is to do window visits. While your elderly friend or family is inside their home or facility, you can sit on the other side of the window and have your phones on speaker so you can hear each other. This gives a sense of connection and closeness that everyone is craving while still protecting each other.

Pictures/Videos

Sending pictures or videos of grandkids, animals, landscape and daily living will help enrich someone's life who is stuck inside their facility or home.

Drive By Birthday Parade

If your weather and situation permits, one way to celebrate a loved ones birthday is to do a drive by birthday parade. Have your loved one come outside and watch the decorated cars drive past with their family and friends. This is a good way to make someone feel special and still maintain a safe social distance with each other!

At Fairbrook Grove Assisted Living Home In Mesa AZ, we are doing everything possible to help restore hope in our residents' lives as we all work through this challenging time together. We understand it can be scary for the elderly to be so concerned about their health and future, so we try daily to uplift, comfort and encourage them.

We hope you all are safe and staying well.
