Preventing Overwhelm
It can be overwhelming to be the sandwich generation, taking care of your elderly parent as well as your children and grandchildren.
As a supportive family member of an elderly loved one, there are so many things we do on a daily basis that can keep us busy. As they become more dependent, it can increase the load we need to carry each day. We have a lot of responsibilities to balance and address, and it’s usually the ones that are ‘screaming the loudest’ that gets our attention. Sometimes this means we forget to take care of our own needs.
At Fairbrook Grove Assisted Living Home Mesa AZ, you have a support system of caregivers and medical professionals to help lift the load of needs for your loved one, but sometimes it can still feel overwhelming.
Staying healthy ourselves needs to be a priority so we can prevent the feeling of overwhelm.
1. Make a list of needs and tasks for the next day, prioritize what’s most important, and make sure those are done first. This will increase your peace and help you balance your day.
2. Set a reminder in your phone for each day to remember your needs and self-care. Ex. “Take care of yourself.” Or “Make time for myself” Even just a little reminder each day can help increase our awareness and mindfulness about our time and energy.
3. Discuss needs and concerns with your support team at Fairbrook Grove Assisted Living Home.Sometimes we can overthink things or be concerned about things that can be resolved very quickly and easily. If you’re thinking about something, mention it, and we’ll try to help relieve some concerns and needs in a positive manner.
We hope you feel peace this week, make time for yourself, and enjoy each day.
